  • Carriage Barn 681 South Avenue New Canaan, CT, 06840 United States (map)

Plein Air & Outdoor Art Making Day
Saturday, October 22
(rain date Oct. 23)

Calling all plein-air painters, photographers, and artists!  Set up easels to paint, sketch or photograph New Canaan’s iconic landscapes and settings such as Waveny Park, the Bristow Bird Sanctuary, Elm Street, New Canaan Historical Society, Grace Farms and more.  Finished pieces will be exhibited and available for sale November 4-13 in the gallery.

Visit the Carriage Barn between 1-3pm to learn about and participate in a nature rubbing activity.   Using graphite and charcoal, twigs, leaves of Waveny or perhaps a favorite cobblestone or textured signage.  Paper and graphite/charcoal will be provided.  Take your creation home or leave it to be incorporated into the exhibit.

Exhibit, November 4-13

The finished pieces (up to four per artist) will be exhibited throughout the gallery.  Waveny Park Conservancy will select one piece to feature on their 2022 holiday card, and award a $500 cash price to the artist.

The exhibit will also feature the winning photographs of Preservation Connecticut‘s “Picturing History: Historic Landscapes of Connecticut” contest. This contest was held in early 2022 in celebration of Frederick Law Olmsted’s 200th birthday, a man considered to be the father of American landscape architecture. Historic landscapes are landscapes that have been shaped by human involvement.
