We are pleased to announce the opening of our second gallery installment featuring the paintings of Elizabeth Marks. The opening reception will take place July 11th from 5:00 – 7:00 pm, and is open to the public. The Westport native is an artist, activist, designer and visual thinker. Raised on a dairy farm in upstate New York with abundant freedom and immersed in nature, Elizabeth developed a deep love of art and the intrinsic beauty of her environment. With the aim to transform the movement of nature, her canvases illustrate the quiet drift in the sky, the roll of the ocean and a softness seen in water and the horizon.

Elizabeth’s artwork is literally an extension of who she is – She paints with her body, a unique technique in which Elizabeth pours paint over herself, then strategically lays on top of the canvas capturing the organic shapes of varying depth and texture. This process which captures the gentle contours of the body depicts the compositions we see in nature. The result is an abstract artwork evoking intrigue, serenity, beauty and strength. Her paintings engage the viewer both visually and tactically through the many layers of paint which serve to indicate movement and color abstraction. Each canvas is an individual exploration of texture, color and form. Elizabeth has been a community activist in Westport since 2004 and in addition to being a fulltime artist, she works for USA for UNHCR, The UN Refugee Agency.
