Rio Bound Performs Brazilian Songbook

  • Norwalk Public Library 1 Belden Avenue Norwalk, CT, 06850 United States (map)

Maria Tiscia’s performing schedule makes her one of the busiest performers out there on the area’s live music scene. The talented jazz vocalist is a regular at 323 Main in Westport and Villa Italia in Stamford. She often appears at Bernard’s Inn in Ridgefield, and that’s not mentioning her gigs in Westchester and upstate in Guilford and Branford.

“Performing in front of an area crowd is my favorite thing to do,” said Tiscia, during a recent interview. “We have a special group of people who follow us. They have become friends, not just fans. As a matter of fact, I’m dedicating this library concert to them. It will be my Valentine gift to them.”

The Stamford-based singer grew up listening to the likes of Sinatra, Ella FitzgeraldDoris DayTony BennettRosemary Clooney, and she fell in love with the music they championed. Her set list can draw from over 500 standards, and she often crafts and performs shows dedicated to the Great American Songbook. For Sunday’s show, however, she showcases another one of her favorite styles — the music of Brazil.

“I am bringing our amazing Brazilian band Rio Bound to the Norwalk Library. We will be performing The Great ‘Brazilian’ Songbook,” she said. “I continue to sing the Great American Songbook, because it’s my first love, but I’m very excited about presenting Rio Bound to audiences. The boys are so gifted, and the vibe is so uplifting and fun. My partner and accompanist David Oliver will be on keyboards, Geoff Morrow is on bass, and Joey Bracchitta is on drums. All three of these musicians have studied both the Great American Songbook and Brazilian Songbook in depth. I’m proud to be working with these fabulous musicians.”
