Between Representation & Abstraction represents the narrow margin amid two perceptions that can be inexplicably transformed into one another. This ambiguous space in between have attributes of both modes of expression: likeness and transcendence.
This exhibition showcases the work of two very different artists: Sally Frank and Natasha Karpinskaia. Both artists have a love affair with paper and prefer monotypes for their intrinsic qualities and unpredictable nature. Frank draws inspiration from nature, and while her pieces are emblematic of her surroundings, they still possess beautiful abstract qualities. Karpinskaia, however, is influenced by ideas other than nature. Though at times her abstract work may have strong landscape qualities, they often appear dreamt up and surreal.
